"Too Close to Home" is a multimedia presentation that will explore the devastating effects of Covid-19 in black and brown communities on Long Island.

This presentation will bring the listener close to the pain and despair that communities of color experienced throughout the pandemic. Black and brown communities in Nassau County were affected more than white residents of neighboring towns. Covid-19 numbers were higher for black and brown residents who were helpless and ignored during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The listener will hear from doctors and residents about the experiences of communities of color during the pandemic.

The Black and Brown community experienced sickness, job loss, and emotional distress during the pandemic. This piece brings the listener into the personal trauma of a local Elmont resident during his Covid-19 sickness and the experiences of others in these communities.

Since people of color had lower vaccination rates, the broadcast explores the reasons for the deep distrust of vaccines in the black and brown communities. Through the testimony of church and community workers, the listener will also learn of the measures that were taken to get more people vaccinated in neighborhoods of color.

As Covid-19 surges into a fifth wave, this piece visits communities of color today and looks into the future of the pandemic through the eyes of an epidemiologist.
